Microsoft announcement

You recently received a Message Center post titled “(Updated) Update to EWS Access for Kiosk / Frontline Worker Licenses.”

This message is being sent specifically to tenants most likely to be affected. Your tenant’s use of EWS by users without the appropriate license type ranks among the top 5%, which means there will be disruptions when this change occurs unless action is taken.

Apps that commonly use EWS include backup software, third-party email clients (not OWA, POP, or IMAP), and apps with calendar integration. To keep these apps functioning, they must either stop using EWS or you must ensure your users have the correct licenses.

You can review the Exchange Online Service description here

Additionally, EWS is scheduled for deprecation starting in October 2026, so it’s recommended to transition to applications that do not rely on EWS.
