Retirement of SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business standalone plans

[Introduction]

We’re retiring SharePoint Online (SPO) and OneDrive for Business (ODB) standalone plans. The affected plans are:

• SharePoint Online Plan 1 and Plan 2
• OneDrive for Business Plan 1 and Plan 2

Customers should begin planning for transition to alternative Microsoft 365 solutions. Customers needing more storage capacity will have options to purchase more storage through capacity packs, pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) offerings, or a combination of both when these become available in the first half of 2026.

Why this change?

Standalone SharePoint and OneDrive plans have low worldwide adoption and with few organizations using the full storage capabilities. Consolidating into Microsoft 365 suites and leveraging capacity packs and PAYGO models help customers benefit from integrated security, compliance, and collaboration features while adding control over their costs and data estate.

[When this will happen:]

• Retirement Announcement: January 2026: New customers can still purchase Plan 1 and Plan 2, and existing customers can still renew.
• End of Sale: June 1, 2026: No new customers or tenants after this date. Existing customers can still renew.
• End of Life: January 2027: No renewals. We will continue to support existing licensing and agreements through the end of your current contract.
• End of Service: Latest by December 2029 or end of contract: All customers must complete their transition.

Who is affected:

• Organizations using SharePoint Online Plan 1 or Plan 2
• Organizations using OneDrive for Business Plan 1 or Plan 2

What will happen:

• Standalone plans are no longer sold after June 1, 2026.
• Renewals will no longer be offered beginning January 2027.
• Service ends by December 2029 or contract end.
• Organizations must transition to Microsoft 365 suites, capacity packs, PAYGO storage options, or a combination of these.
• No immediate service disruption during transition.

• Plan migration or renewal before contract dates.
• Assess Microsoft 365 suites, capacity packs, or PAYGO options.
• Manage, archive, or delete data as needed.
• Use admin center reports for storage usage.
