Microsoft Windows 365: Updates to Windows 365 Flex (formerly Windows 365 Frontline)

[What and Why]

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Windows 365 Frontline is becoming Windows 365 Flex. As a follow-up to that announcement, we will start updating customer-visible UX surfaces from Windows 365 Frontline to Windows 365 Flex across key portal and client experiences. 

This rollout updates product terminology and user interface labels only. Windows 365 functionality, licensing, provisioning behavior, and Cloud PC capabilities remain unchanged. 

[Rollout Schedule]

• Rollout begins in early July 2026.
• Updates will occur gradually across services and experiences, starting with the Intune admin center, followed by client experiences, and then extending to additional downstream experiences in the following months, including reporting, notifications, alerts, audit logs, device models, Graph APIs and other dependent surfaces that reference Frontline terminology today.

• Admins will begin seeing Windows 365 Flex branding across various Windows 365 experiences, including:
• Provisioning policy creation and management
• License labels
• Cloud PC size names
• Windows App and Cloud Apps experiences
• Web, Windows, Android, and iOS client experiences 
• Examples of updated terminology:
  • Windows 365 Frontline becomes Windows 365 Flex
  • Frontline type becomes Flex mode
  • Frontline shared becomes Flex shared
  • Frontline dedicated becomes Flex dedicated
  • Frontline devices becomes Flex devices
• These updates reflect the new product's name and do not change service functionality.
• Existing licenses, Cloud PCs, provisioning policies, assignments, and entitlements continue to work as they do today.

We recommend that you:

• Update internal documentation and training materials that reference Windows 365 Frontline.
• Notify help desk and support teams of the updated terminology to reduce potential confusion during the transition.
• Review screenshots and user guidance that include Frontline naming.
• Plan for future updates to reporting, device models, and API references as rollout progresses.
