Reminder: Controlled scream test for default app-only session consistency in Microsoft Entra

[Introduction]
As a follow-up to our earlier communication (MC1268930, April '26), this is a reminder of the planned controlled scream test as part of the upcoming retirement of the default app-only session consistency behavior in Microsoft Entra.
During this test, the default app-only session consistency behavior will be temporarily disabled to help identify potential dependencies and validate readiness ahead of the final rollout.
[When this will happen:]
July 9th, 2026: A controlled scream test lasting approximately 6 hours
July 16th, 2026: A controlled scream test lasting approximately 24 hours
[How this will affect your organization:]
During the test, the default app-only session consistency behavior will be disabled. This represents a breaking change for applications using app-only access with Microsoft Entra Graph APIs that rely on this behavior.
Applications that perform immediate read-after-write or write-after-write operations using app-only access may experience:
- Delayed data visibility
- Differences in query results immediately after write operations
Delegated (user-based) access scenarios are not impacted.
This test is intended to help identify any applications that still depend on the existing app-only session consistency behavior (after the June 30th deadline) before it is permanently retired.

- Validate application behavior under eventual consistency conditions.
- Monitor application behavior during scream test and fix any issues found based on the guidance.
