Microsoft announcement
[What and Why:]
Starting November 17, 2026, the Service Admin role in Viva Glint will have access to all report attributes, including report sections, report filters, and comment filters. These attributes cannot be restricted for the Service Admin role, either by customer admins in Viva Glint or by Microsoft Support.
This change aligns Viva Glint with the Microsoft 365 admin model, where the highest-privileged role has access to all data and settings within its scope. Organizations that require more granular access should assign users to other roles with the appropriate permissions.
This message is being sent to all Viva Glint customers. If you have not previously requested restrictions on Service Admin report attributes, no changes are expected for your organization.
[Rollout Schedule:]
Global: We will begin rolling out on mid November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.
[Impact on Your Organization:]
- Full report attribute access: Everyone assigned the Service Admin role will have access to all report attributes, including those used in report sections, report filters, and comment filters.
- No ability to restrict access: Service Admin report attributes cannot be edited in Viva Glint.
- Removal of existing restrictions: Any report attribute restrictions to the Service Admin role previously applied by Microsoft Support at your request will be removed.
- Other roles are unaffected: This change applies only to the Service Admin role. All other user roles and their existing permissions remain unchanged.
[Action Required/Recommendations:]
Review your role assignments and reporting access to ensure they align with your organization's requirements.
- Review Service Admin assignments. Remove the Service Admin role from anyone who should not have access to all report attributes.
- Use roles with narrower access. For users who need administrative capabilities but should have access to only a subset of report attributes, create or update a user role with the appropriate permissions and assign it to those users.
- Review uploaded attributes. If an attribute should not be available for reporting to anyone in your organization, consider whether it needs to be uploaded to Viva Glint.
[Compliance considerations:]
No compliance considerations identified. Review as appropriate for your organization.
